In a nutshell

We have an exciting opportunity to join us as a Commercial Technology Lead focusing on the strategic commercial alignment of Technology suppliers to provide high quality Technology products and services to Virgin Atlantic. You will be a part of the Technology and Transformation team. As a Commercial Technology Lead you will build trusted relationships with our partners and internal stakeholders enabling an environment where both can flourish and deliver value and continuous improvement but also Identify problems and opportunities, working constructively, in a commercially sensitive way, with suppliers to support the wider technology function. 

The Commercial Technology Lead will report to the Senior Manager - Technology Transformation Lead and be accountable as the single point of contact between nominated strategic suppliers and Virgin Atlantic. This role is critical to ensure we maximize the supplier capabilities, opportunities and return on investment to support our long-term plans.

Day to day

  • Manage contracts with a total value of up to £20m per year, ensuring compliance, performance, and value for money.
  • Build trusted relationships with our partners and internal stakeholders, enabling an environment where both can flourish and deliver continuous improvement.
  • Strong grasp on Virgin Atlantic's commercials, work prioritization, and strategic roadmap dependencies.
  • Communicate and influence at the senior leadership and board level, using facts, evidence, and soft skills.
  • Drive a collaborative, partnership supplier culture that is based on shared long-term goals.
  • A high degree of commercial pragmatism and gravitas is required as well as attention to detail to ensure that interdependencies are not missed. 
  • Supplier Governance and Audit Compliance.
  • Financial Management.
  • Identify opportunities to drive down costs whilst maintaining acceptable service standards.
  • Take opportunities to appropriately consolidate supplier base.
  • Use trend analysis (and other sources) to identify and drive potential Supplier service improvements/efficiencies.
  • Manage the interaction of multiple service/product providers.
  • Input into the preparation of investment proposals and business cases from a technology commercial perspective – working with suppliers and partners to scope, cost and size of initiatives.

About you

You will have proven commercial contract management experience, ideally gained during contract, commercial, or procurement background with experience in management of contracts more than £5M TCV. Along with a strategic mindset to influence our £80m+ of technical spend per annum. Understanding of the organizational interplay between procurement, contract management, commercial/relationship management, and enterprise architecture. Demonstrable prior experience of working within Information Technology or an associated technical field.

In addition, you will be good negotiator with a track record of results, maximizing benefits versus cost. Able to clearly articulate complex technical and commercial interdependencies to business stakeholders and able to decompose business requirements into technical dependencies. Excellent stakeholder and communication skills to tailor approach to suit suppliers and stakeholders.

Airline experience desirable, but not essential. So, if you are familiar with technology contracts such as SaaS we would love to hear from you!
