Hours: 37.5 Monday to Friday 
Location: Hybrid remote working, with 3 days a week in our VHQ
Contract: 12 Month Secondment / FTC 
Closing date: Monday, 14th October 2024

In a nutshell

In this role as Financial Accountant Analyst you will take responsibility for the operation and control of financial accounting transactions, ensuring accurate & complete entries are made into both the statutory and management accounting records of the company. You will carry out postings and transactional corrections required in the ledger to overcome reservation/accounting system (RPA/Tbox) limitations. 

You'll deliver accurate, reliable, and timely books of account for VAA/VAH. This includes working on areas such as accounting for revenue and taxes. You'll cross-check information and entries with other teams/sources within the finance department to ensure that the information entered is valid and correct.

In the area of financial controls, you will be expected to ensure that reconciliations are kept up to date, communication channels with the rest of the department are maintained, changes to systems/accounting judgements are well controlled, and accounting is performed accurately with minimal adjustments.

Day to day

  • Contribute to projects to enhance the controls process, including mapping those controls and articulating these to financial and non-financial staff as required.
  • Support the Financial Accounting managers in delivering and testing, vital operational improvements and pro-actively highlight further opportunities for improvement and consolidation of work.
  • Support the transfer of RPA/Tbox data into Oracle;
  • Ensure accurate & complete posting of all journals, loading of budget and forecasts into Oracle as required and initial investigation into key variances to Budget and/or forecast;
  • Complete and maintain accounting reconciliations as assigned by Financial Accounting Managers. These can include but are not limited to: Invoice control (UK and Overseas), Taxes, Forward commissions, waiver and reissue accounts, and estimating the reserve for possible rejections & Interline exchanges.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are appropriately reconciled and fully understood and provide meaningful analysis and insight into movements in these accounts.
  • Work with other Finance Operations teams to ensure that the interface between RPA/Tbox & Oracle operates as efficiently as possible eliminating manual intervention where possible;
  • Working with the Revenue Accounts and Holidays Business teams to systematically reduce the volume of work/error rate
  • Supporting other teams by cross-referencing information and ensuring the full end-to-end process is understood (point of customer booking to final cashflow and flight/holiday completion)
  • Assisting in implementing both large and small projects and taking ownership of these as required
  • Ensure you undertake the training required to deliver development plans (including self-learning modules on tools such as excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, etc)
  • Leverage accounting qualification to improve the quality of designated balance sheet reconciliations
  • Highlight any system, procedural issue or variance that may impede accounting processes
  • Continuously improve financial accounting integrity & efficiency through the review of policies, procedures and controls
  • Complete CAA, ATOL and tax submissions as required under regulation; Assist with statutory audit work/queries

About you

Are you part qualified ACA/ACCA, with a strong understanding of double entry bookkeeping? Are you diligent, open to learning new processes, and curious with the ability to question and improve existing processes? Then this could be the role for you!

Alongside the above, we're looking for the following:
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy, with proven capability to prioritise work under pressure and deliver to timelines.
  • Strong MS Office, and in particular Excel (experience with tools such as Visio, Power BI & PowerPoint preferred)
  • Willingness to explore automation software to drive efficiencies within the role and across the team
  • Ability to exercise problem solving skills and ensure explanation makes sense within wider business context
  • Strong system skills would be an advantage, particularly Oracle Financials & Business Objects
