In a nutshell
We're looking for an Employee Health Specialist to join our Health, Safety and Security Operations team, supporting Employee Health Services Manager to deliver our VAA Employee Health Plan. This will include change policy and process to improve employee health and productivity to improve our valued employee’s health and productivity. Including supporting maintenance of service level agreement and continued cost discipline across our service providers (Occupational Health (OH), Travel Health, Overseas employee medical response providers, Drug and Alcohol testing providers.) Leading on specific workstreams and projects specifically within in occupational health. You will support authoring and publishing OMB AvMed, or other regulatory information, and emerging Public Health risks and PHEIC and the Company responses.

Day to day
- Support the Employee Health Manager in the delivery of the Employee Health Plan, ensuring transformational outputs in line with the overall Health strategy and our ‘Most Loved’ airline mission.
- Liaise with and effectively influence internal and external stakeholders to ensure industry best practice in Employee Health is adopted.
- Proactively support the management of medical risk within the Safety Management System - this includes managing Occurrence Reports, Risk Assessments and Risk Logs.
- Support any emerging Public Health risks and PHEIC and the company response.
- Assist Health Managers with advancement and development of the HRRG.
- Lead investigations into significant employee medical welfare, events and audits.
- Support Health Managers and liaise with key internal and internal stakeholders during major medical events.
- Provide oversight and advice to management teams and employee relations team in proactive management of OH cases.
- Maintain watching brief, author and issue destination health briefs, providing proactive health promotion materials relating to employee health issues.
- Advise managers and employee relations team on key aspects of sickness absence management.
- Advise managers and the business on health surveillance programmes and oversee delivery of HS programmes via outsourced providers.
About you
In addition to the above, we are looking for our successful candidate to demonstrate the following:
- NMC registered Nurse on Part 1 of the register or equivalent qualification, along with Post Graduate Occupational Health qualification.
- Experience (or proven interest) in travel health and occupational health as applied to multiple environments and locations
- Previous team/line management experience with project and change management experience.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health, Health and Safety, Employment law, and Airline regulation and Airline Health risks, and the interaction between each discipline.
- Strong legislative, operational and commercial awareness.
- Significant experience of health risk management, preferably in aviation or transportation.
- Proven ability to analyze and interpret health data from a wide variety of sources (internal and external) and make sound risk-based judgments and recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective peer to peer relationship and influencing skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with influencing skills at all levels both internally and externally to VAA. Including ability to compile and deliver recommendations, presentations, and reports to Health Management.
