As Technical Operations Engineer, you will be accountable for providing technical support, fleet monitoring, AOG management to all Virgin stations worldwide as well as communications to operations on a 24hr, 7 days a week basis. Working with the Engineering Operations Manager, you'll manage all of the operational disruption caused by technical situations, in order to deliver the commercial flying programme safely, on-time and protect the NPS. The supporting element of the role is that of providing defect analysis, repetitive defect monitoring, control and the formulation and implementation of correction plans as well as assessing Deferred Defects Levels, defining and co-ordinating action plans to maintain these within the Company set criteria. 

Day to day

Operational Control and Decision Making
  • Minimise Engineering delays by providing backup and support as necessary, including the provision of EASA Part 21 non-structural design support IAW VAA design organisation procedures.
  • Following Published AOG management process ensure that as focal for an AOG recovery parallel path actions are formulated and deployed.
  • Manage the day to day engineering operation through fleet monitoring and defect management.
  • Ensure published departmental procedures for AOG management and reporting are followed consistently by all.
  • Ensure customer experience and NPS impact is considered in decision making.
  • Safety and compliance must be driven by Technical Operations in all decision making use of Risk.

Assessment Fleet monitoring and control
  • Pro-actively review AHM/Airman/Ultramain systems and review all outstanding defects on the VAA fleets daily to eliminate high/medium risk and recurrent defects by fleet.
  • Trend monitoring of aircraft systems highlighting adverse trends via Engineering orders.
  • Provide fully defined tasks where applicable (TSEO and DD Management) to rectify.

Repetitive and time limited defects
  • Constant monitoring analysing and evaluating of defects and provision of recommended maintenance actions to limit or stop re-occurrence.
  • Solution finding
  • Provide fully defined tasks (TSEO and DD Management) to rectify
  • Draw on support required by Engineering Services or OEMs to allow rectification of time limited defects

Continuous Improvement
  • Total ownership of aircraft condition and compliance whilst being the focal point of all Line/Base maintenance activities.
  • Evaluate all Technical delays for appropriate follow up and Root Cause investigation.
  • Compile and publish AOG logs with allocated actions for immediate and longer-term follow up via operational review meetings
  • Review of AOG situations post the event with recommendations for improvements to current processes

Reporting
  • Accurate and regular reports compiled and issued to the business regarding AOGs
  • Clear and timely delay reporting, collaborating with the business with follow up actions recorded for review and follow ups

About you

We seek people with the following skills and experience: 

  • Hold EASA Part 66 B1 and or B2 Licenses, coupled with associated certification responsibilities on aircraft types operated by the company OR hold a Degree qualification / HND in a relevant Engineering subject.
  • Have experience and in depth technical knowledge of the Virgin fleet, sufficient to determine the airworthiness of any component or system and the ability to provide solutions to issues.
  • Have proven ability to analyse and interpret data from a wide variety of sources and make sound technical judgements and recommendations based on this.
  • -Have effective decision making skills - will be required when utilising resources such as planning of ground time workforce & expertise.
  • Have a broad understanding of the health and safety implications of actions requested or being undertaken.
  • Have proven and confident communication, influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Have a logical, analytical and creative approach to solving technical, operational and administrative problems.
  • Be able to produce technical instruction/reports for both technical and non-technical recipients.
  • Be able to make clear and unambiguous decisions and to be able to pass these on in situations of pressure.
  • Be current on Human Factors, Part M and appropriate recurrent training programs
  • Be computer literate with working knowledge of Virgin IT systems, Microsoft office.
