Diversity & Inclusion
Be yourself – whoever you are…
Virgin Atlantic embraces diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We believe in creating an inclusive environment, which is an essential part of our culture. We expect all our Virgin People to treat each other equally, honestly and with respect. We want to nurture a culture where diverse perspectives can help drive our company forward around the globe.
We strive to provide a fair and supportive work environment for all our employees, regardless of their age, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, or affiliation to any political party or trade union. Our aim is to employ people who reflect the diverse nature of society and we value each of our employees for the contribution they make.

The Women in Aviation & Aerospace (WiAA) Charter has gone from strength to strength. It’s seen huge growth and success, building an expanding community of over 121 signatory and 34 supporting organisations, all committed to building a fairer industry for women. Their current focus is to deepen the understanding of our industry’s diversity challenges.
Springboard is a programme that we deliver, targeted specifically at females in entry to mid-level positions who want to enhance their skillset in a variety of ways. In turn, these skills could help them move up into leadership roles when opportunities arise. They also get to discover techniques which can be used every day.
Family Friendly policy
We know that family matters to our people as Virgin is a family affair. Many of our employees work flexibly and in many ways, including part-time, different core hours or remote working. We aim to provide a realistic balance between work and life which will enable our employees to manage their ever-busy personal lives with their careers at Virgin Atlantic.
WiHLT is devoted to increasing women’s representation and diversity as a whole, as well as in leadership positions across hospitality, travel and leisure. By collaborating with like-minded organisations in our industry, we believe we can amplify the impact of individual diversity initiatives. Together we can have a bigger, louder voice for the good of the HTL industry.
Business in the Community (BITC) is the oldest and largest business-led membership organisation dedicated to responsible business. As a member, we have joined a network of progressive businesses who look beyond the profit motive. We’re dedicated to making a difference within society and collaborating with other companies to bring about change.
Virgin is committed to embedding a culture where disabled people and those with health conditions can work in good jobs and achieve their full potential. This starts from the outset of our recruitment process, where we provide an opportunity for demonstrating skills, talent and abilities at interview. We’re devoted to ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive.
Virgin takes celebrating Pride seriously, from supporting Pride events across the UK to events that span across the globe. In June 2019 we hosted our first ever ‘Pride Flight’ from London to New York, to celebrate 50 years since Stonewall. It was crewed entirely by LGBT+ Pilots and Cabin Crew, all in celebration of World Pride.
Our women’s networking group, Scarlet Network, is a social space where like-minded women can support each other. We hold a range of monthly networking sessions, from skills development to guest speakers (everyone’s welcome to attend). We aim to get women connecting in a fast-paced industry.
Scope of our Policies
