From our receptionists to our engineers, our Cabin Crew to our contact centre staff, everyone at Virgin Atlantic relies on some form of IT to do their job. Add that to the fact we’re a global organisation made up of various specialist areas and you can see why IT plays such a starring role in our success.
It’s up to us to implement innovations that our customers will love. It’s our responsibility to help our people do their job as seamlessly as possible. By making brilliant use of technology we can deliver even better products and services and create a better place to work.
What’s it like to work in IT?
It’s exciting, engaging and challenging – just like the world of technology itself. We work at a fast pace so we’ll expect you to keep up whilst being diplomatic and showing unwavering commitment. We love to see innovative thinking but you’ll also need the discipline to follow our processes. There are lots of different roles within IT.
Whatever your title, your key responsibility is to partner and shadow the business and develop a knack for understanding our business requirements. Our projects are wide reaching and varied – more so than you’d imagine for a company of our size. You might end up working on a BAU project or you could wind up involved in a major reinvention programme.

Career opportunities in IT
Our organisational structure is fairly flat so you won’t come across too much hierarchy. If you’re self-motivated, there are opportunities to progress. You’ll work across multiple areas of the airline so you’ll get broad exposure to different specialisms. It’s not often you have the chance to build up such experience.
We’re not necessarily looking for experts in aviation IT but we’re always keen to hear from people who are experts in this field. We’re a super supportive kind of company so you’ll be given chance to learn and progress. We’ll also support you to get professional accreditation if it’s relevant to your role.
Here’s what someone in our team says about working here…
Jules Gascoigne – Head of Information Security
“I’ve been at VAA for a few months and I have to say that I love working here! The positivity of the people and the loyalty to the brand is not something I have come across in the past.”
“I have seen a lot of big projects in my career and the success of Air4 is a testament to the positive attitude and teamwork at VAA which I see on a daily basis, albeit on a smaller scale! We might sometimes take it for granted, but this is a very special place to work!”
