David – Trainer, Cabin Crew
Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name’s David and I’m a Cabin Crew Trainer. I have been working for Virgin Atlantic for 15 years and I began my career as cabin crew. My dream has always been to fly, so I studied an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Air Cabin Crew, after I left school. From the age of 18 I followed my dream and I joined the Airline Industry. From serving our customers at 36’000 feet up in the air, to leading, mentoring and training our super hero cabin crew, every day is different.
What made you apply to Virgin Atlantic?
I was fascinated with flying from a young age. I followed my dream and I started flying for Virgin Atlantic in 2003. I joined as cabin crew and worked my way up through the ranks to senior cabin crew and finally became an on-board manager. In 2014 I was promoted to become a Cabin Crew Trainer, training our cabin crew in our safety equipment and procedures and aviation medicine. My current role allows me to train and fly, ensuring our procedures are followed and they are effective. The safety and comfort of our customers is always put at the heart of everything we do. I love training our cabin crew and allowing them to be at their best. Every one of our crew embraces the human spirit and lets it fly. For me, this is so rewarding and why I love being part of the Virgin family.
I have always been passionate about looking after our customers and our crew. I have dealt with many challenging situations over my flying career. Ranging from a decompression, to a fire on board the aircraft and many medical emergencies at 36’000 feet.
What has been your best moment?
My best memory was getting my wings to fly. After studying hard for 6 continuous weeks of emergency procedures, aviation medicine and service training, my dream finally came true. Every time I hand a new crew member their wings now, it takes me back to my special day. I am a true believer that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. I did and I’m thankful to Virgin Atlantic.

Working for Virgin Atlantic is not like any other airline. We as a company have won shelf loads of awards in our history. We ‘wow’ our customers by putting ourselves in their shoes and making them feel welcome. We all lend a hand and we get it sorted, so our customers receive an award winning service. All of this is underpinned by a robust safety and security culture and allows our people to be at their best.
Since joining Virgin Atlantic in 2003, I have never looked back. It was the best decision I have ever made and Virgin have allowed me to be at my best. I am proud to be part of the Virgin family as I have had the opportunity to follow my dream. I have travelled the world and I have memories that I will cherish forever. I have stayed in some of the most luxurious hotels around the world, to seeing the Northern lights and going on safari in Africa. I have had the privilege to meet and work with amazing people and made many true friends.
