This sought after and highly rewarding role sits at the heart of Virgin Atlantic’s Engineering & Maintenance operation. You will be accountable for delivering industry leading technical operational performance, safely and compliantly, in addition to leading our third party outsourced heavy maintenance team. The role requires technical, operational, and commercial competence, to deliver the highest levels of safety, reliability, on time performance and cost efficiency.

Day to day

You will undertake a number of duties in your role, with the main day to day requirements listed below:

You will lead your team in effective multi-functional working, capable of achieving their objectives whilst integrating with Engineering and Maintenance peer group teams to deliver specialist operational and maintenance plan leadership

Controlling the annual departmental budget to ensure expenditure is in line with the business plan and budget

You will lead your team, ensuring that the required standards of performance, qualification and experience are maintained

You will lead in the delivery of:
• 24/7 technical operational management support
• Maintenance planning strategy, optimisation and delivery
• Definition and provision of technical and maintenance work scopes
• All EASA Part M & Part 145 requirements fulfilled for services provisioned
• Definition of departmental processes
• Deputise for nominated Part M Post Holder as required
• Selection, negotiation, and management of MRO maintenance providers

You will also be responsible for Life cycle cost management as well as regulatory relationship management.

About you

Are you an experienced Senior Engineering Manager? Do you inspire and lead teams to perform to their full potential in a safe and effective manner? If so, we think this would be the ideal role for you. In order to perform effectively in this role (and enjoy it), we would require you to have the following skills and experience:

• Must be thorough, detailed and analytical in your work, with enthusiasm to develop a professional team culture.
• Professional qualifications in aircraft engineering, typically licensed aircraft maintenance engineer and/or degree in relevant Engineering subject and/or suitable documented industry experience
• Possess excellent written and oral communication skills and influencing skills at all levels both internally and externally to Virgin Atlantic. Including ability to compile and deliver presentations and reports to Senior Management.
• Ability to work well on your own initiative and demonstrate strong multi-functional working relationships
• Strong interpersonal skills to allow you to operate at a senior level in Virgin Atlantic, effective peer to peer relationships and influencing skills
• Knowledge of EASA, CAA & other National Airworthiness Authority regulations
• Must have strong leadership qualities and be able to demonstrate a track record of managing performance, delivering feedback and managing all aspects of HR issues
• Demonstrated cost and commercial awareness in relation to decisions within the function
• Proven Organisational Change and project management skills
• Experience in the management of business critical planning activities
• Acumen for development and adoption of new and existing procedures at MOE, EDP and LOI level
• Consistently managed teams to achieve immediate business needs and deliver long term projects in line with operational delivery
• Have proven ability to analyse and interpret data from a wide variety of sources and make sound technical judgements and recommendations
• Experience of working with senior managers
• Knowledge of current EASA/CAA legislative requirements in respect of Airworthiness data storage, tracking and reporting
• Knowledge of EASA/CAA legislative requirements in respect of the Terms of Approval of the Virgin Atlantic Design Organisation
