In a nutshell

Could you be the next Senior Manager – Employee Relations and Senior Legal Counsel to join Virgin Atlantic? This role forms an integral and strategic part of the wider Virgin Atlantic Group providing a full spectrum of legal support to our airline and holiday businesses and also supports the Head of ER with Employee Relations projects.

You will report to our Head of ER and lead on legal compliance in the UK and overseas providing legal counsel across our organisation.

Whilst industry specific and in-house experience is not essential it is a significant advantage.

Day to day

Working closely with our People team you'll provide advice on ad hoc employment law across a broad spectrum of issues. (eg disciplinary, grievance, performance management, sickness absence, flexible working and reasonable adjustments).

You'll advise on business change projects in a timely and legally compliant way and ensure our values and people strategy are a focus.

You'll lead on Employee Relations projects in line with our Employee Relations strategy.
Advising upon, drafting and negotiating TUPE provisions of commercial agreements and also supporting our businesses in ensuring any TUPE transfers are handled in the right way.
Management of Employment Tribunal claims against Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays in the UK.
Responsible for the management of international employment law claims and issues with external local specialists.
Seeking advice from and instructing external legal advisers. Ensuring provision of cost effective external legal advice.
Drafting and negotiation of settlement agreements.
Provide employment law updates and training colleagues across the business
Identifying trends and implementing improvements from claims, redundancy and restructures, HR advisory cases and TUPE situations.
You will collaborate with the ER team to promote and track the success of Talk it Out, our internal workplace conflict resolution scheme.
Supporting the Head of ER where required with industrial relations matters involving our recognised trade unions and staff committees.
Providing legal advice as required on business wide projects such as GDPR compliance, apprenticeship schemes, gender pay, modern slavery and other commercial projects

About you

You will be an expert employment lawyer with validated experience of working in a fast paced and commercially focused environment. Whether you are working within a well-known City firm or are already working in-house, what is key to us is that you’re technically excellent. If you come from an airline or an in-house background this would be advantageous.

You will work closely with senior management colleagues and have excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex employment law issues to colleagues and propose commercial solutions.
