In a nutshell

This role works alongside the Engineering Leaders and is responsible for building, strengthening and maintaining relationships with the Engineering workforce with the ultimate aim of ensuring a consistent approach to people management within Maintenance where our Engineers feel fully supported, are technically proficient and are consistently demonstrating the highest standards of service, safety, security and operational efficiency.

This role will also work with the management teams across E&M to ensure that the Engineering Staff Committee are engaged and communicated with as appropriate on changes which impact our people, and ensure that our people are communicated with at all stages of the employee journey.

Day to day

People management & Development
• Supporting the department managers and line managers to provide leadership to the Engineering teams
• Coaching line managers so that high expectations are set for the team with regards to performance, accountabilities, behaviours and assisting in providing robust development feedback where appropriate.
• Coach Line managers to identify potential succession planning for the future.
• Supporting the activity of investigations, disciplinary, probationary grievance and appeal hearings – providing company policy where required.
• Work towards informal resolution of issues wherever possible.
• Work with the line managers to ensure people development that delivers a skilled, engaged and motivated team.
• Provide a high level of welfare, both in and out of office hours where appropriate.
• Managing and supporting individuals in complex cases.
• Work with the Occupational Health, insurance suppliers and Health and Safety to support and protect individuals including booking medicals for all Aircraft Maintenance teams
• Identify potential ER risks and to support and manage cases where required

Engineer Engagement
• Support the line managers in building strong and robust relationships with all Engineers ensuring trust and respect.
• Identify key issues early on and work with line managers to deliver solutions for resolution and implementation.
• Support the delivery of an engaged and productive staff committee.
• To engage in a timely and constructive manner with the Engineering Staff Committee in order to build and maintain good working relationships, working closely with the Management Chair and Employee Chair to ensure all parties are fully supported.
• Support other areas of E&M to ensure consistency in regard to people development and engagement.
• Engage with other parts of the business to communicate and represent Engineering issues.

Change Management
• Support and manage any change management project, utilising the change management toolkit.
• Ensure that the team who are leading any other change are fully supported

People Initiatives
• Create and deliver the Engineering STEM plan working closely with the Be Yourself team to integrate with Passport to Change.
• Responsible for creating and running Engineering Leaders Community Sessions alongside the Business Development Manager.
• Support and create initiatives to support the wellbeing of the E & M Team including delivering a wellbeing segment in the required training days.

About you

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing change which impacted a large group of people and will have a background of effectively dealing with employee relations issues.

The individual will be a role model with an exceptional ability to collaborate with a wide set of collaborators. They will be a strong communicator and known for resolving issues, with an ability to manage and resolve conflict where necessary. A creative attitude and being proactive is essential to this role.

The individual will have an excellent working knowledge of the Red Book and would ideally have managed a large group of people, either indirectly or directly.
