Our Covid-19 Response
Survival, Love, and Profitability
There’s no denying that the pandemic has had a devastating effect on the world, and for aviation and travel, the effects of Covid-19 will be felt for years to come. Against a backdrop of continued uncertainty, we’ve had to take bold decisions to radically adapt and to reshape our airline so that it can emerge sustainably profitable. You can read more about the journey we’ve taken to ensure our financial survival here, in our annual report.
Undoubtably the hardest part was having to say goodbye to so many of our amazing people. Their engagement, spirit and patience has been humbling, and as we rebuild and demand slowly returns, we hope to welcome back as many of our former colleagues as possible.
Before the pandemic hit, our vision was to be the most loved travel company and a sustainability leader – and that hasn’t changed. Our values to be amazing, think red and make friends hold true, and as always, the health, safety and security of our people and customers will always come first.
It’s time to return to our roots and adopt a start-up, founder mentality, where everyone thinks and acts like an owner of Virgin Atlantic, where we take collective responsibility to deliver on our commitments, and where every penny counts.
We’re 100% committed to re-engaging our people and getting back to our best for our customers. Luckily, that spirit and camaraderie, innovative thinking and can-do attitude is hard coded in the Virgin Atlantic DNA.
Growth remains at the core of our plan as we rebuild our balance sheet, repay our debts and commit to achieving commercial and financial success. Through a reduced cost base, efficiencies in network and fleet operations, the strength of our cargo business and agility in how we work, we can expand our network while contributing to cash and profitability.
