The Virgin Atlantic Commercial department is made up of various teams that work across different areas of the business. Our overarching purpose is to drive revenue and maximise profit. We do this through intelligent planning and analysis, reliable operations, productive relationships and by managing our people, aircraft, network, systems, capacity, worldwide prices and revenue in a skilful, efficient way.
These are some of the teams in our Commercial department:
Revenue Management and Customer Loyalty
The Revenue Management team works collaboratively across the business to drive revenues and our commercial proposition. We use cutting edge tools and techniques to lead insight and analysis. Our main objective is to optimise the airline’s revenue performance by providing our customers with experiences and products they’ll love. From booking a ticket through to choosing a seat, we determine the commercial proposition of our customers’ journey and keep the airline competitive.
The Loyalty team is responsible for the design and execution of our seriously rewarding loyalty programme, Flying Club. We make sure our members and highest spending customers are rewarded for flying with us so they come back again and again. We support our external partners, the operational day-to-day management of our technology and we plan for the future.
Virgin Atlantic’s digital team is responsible for delivering Virgin Atlantic’s digital channel strategy including web, apps, mobile web and new technologies. It’s essential that the Virgin Atlantic digital channels support sales, digital services and digital communications. That’s why we have a sharp focus on revenue generation and customer engagement.
With lots of projects taking place across our regional websites, we’re constantly enhancing functionality. We work hard every day to make sure that all our channels are effectively selling flights to all our destinations. That’s why our team members need to be organised, creative, customer focused, innovative, dedicated, dynamic, passionate and willing to learn more.
Networks and Alliances
Network and Alliances is in charge of where we fly, when we fly and how we deploy our aircraft. And we always have the customer and commercial performance in mind. We analyse route performance and macro economic factors to optimise our routes and flying schedules. We also build and manage relationships with our airline partners to extend our network and offer our customers more choice. This includes managing the super important relationship we have with our joint venture partner, Delta Air Lines.
So what’s it like working in the commercial teams?
Working in collaboration with other areas of the business, you’ll be at the heart of decisions that affect the whole airline. As our teams are involved in so many aspects of the business – from deciding which aircraft should fly which routes and how much we should charge to incentivising our customers – the roles and responsibilities are varied.
To join one of our teams, you’ll need to be a great communicator with an in depth understanding of everything that can influence the airline’s final results. Attention to detail is vital and you’ll need to be great with numbers.
If you’re great at managing data, commercially focused and have the confidence to make clear recommendations and decisions that benefit the business and the customer, this area of Virgin Atlantic should seriously appeal to you.
